An underwriter makes money on new IPO's. Market makers profit from the stocks they trade. You figure it out.

Let me repeat. Underwriters always initiate coverage for their stocks. MMs are not obligated to initiate coverage. What has trading profits got to do with analyst coverage. Goldman Sachs makes markets for hundreds of stocks without analyst coverage.
