Steven--A fine description and rendering of the proper pronunciation of the Scottish 'Great Sword'.
You neglected to mention that the British actually found the Scots to be fine soldiers once equipped with better weapons. They were bold fighters. Their boldness and the ease of recruiting them is generally attributed to the national dish of Haggis and the custom of wearing kilts in the midst of a far Northern winter. Asking a potential recruit in the middle of a blizzard if he would like to go somewhere warm and fight someone was a gimmie.
