Mark,
I thought that it would available this year as well until I spoke with the company about a month ago. They said that they have always said that they would begin shipping beta units in summer 99, with end of 99, beginning of 00 as their volume ramp time period, giving roughly 6 months for beta. From the tone of the CC last night, it sounded like they hope that the transition to SDLT will be smoothened by DLT8000, and that it won't be necessary to have a fast ramp for SDLT.

One hopes for their (and me and my fellow stockholders) that EXBT and Sony cooperate with that vision. They did quote a recent study which said that companies will be reluctant to change their backup systems over the next year due to possible Y2K problems.

I wouldn't be so skeptical Mark. I've invested in several companies before that have one line of business that is old and dying and another line of business that is growing at 40-50% year over year rates. IBM for one could have been purchased for a song several years ago when people were moaning about the declining mainframe business. What they failed to see was the fast growing services business. Those who saw that did very well. Another was DEC whose Alpha architecture was growing by leaps and bounds as VAX was dying. When the street switched from being overly focused on VAX to overly optimistic we who saw early were very well rewarded. In both cases it took a little patience. It's amazing how long it took Wall Street to notice.

And that is what it will take with QNTM. Just a little patience. DLT revenue is getting to the point now where it is hard to ignore. Even without the tracking stock. Wall street will discover this all of a sudden and report it as if it is something new. Then QNTM, too long the dog, will be the darling of Wall street.
