CGarcia- Re: Whisper numbers

The so-called "whisper number" is simply the unofficial general concensus of investors (as opposed to analysts) regarding earnings expectations. They come from many sources, including boards like SI. Consider the number of recent posts speculating about the earnings figure. Many threads actually take surveys and tabulate the results.

Now, when a company misses the whisper number and falls back, remember that the price really reflected the markets expectations for earnings. The price falls as investors adjust their valuation to reflect the actual earnings.

Yes, even for Inuts, stock price is tied to earnings (or anticipation of earnings) .

BTW, I am long AOL and think the last quarter's performance was excellent.
