I think that it's getting dragged up by the material stocks and those seeing gold stocks as cheap in a looming inflationary environment.
If the POG wasn't so depressed and being held down by the fear of central bank selling, gold stocks would be a lot higher.
Everyone cringes everytime gold moves up a few bucks. Under those circumstances, wisdom says the XAU can only go so far. Maybe that's why you are hearing sell.
To me, many fundamentals are in place for a gold rally save the central bank drag.
