John,

Since you suggested the Gigabyte motherboard, I was wondering what kind it was: Socket 7, Socket 370 or Slot 1. It determines what kind of CPU you can use.

It's kind of strange that they had to reinstall Windows 98. You can just remove all drivers, and let Windows search for the new or upgraded devices, keeping all the software in place.
