Per Bloomberg - 04/29/99 2:05am ET:

America Online Inc. (AOL): The No. 1 online service is likely to pair with cable-television operator Comcast Corp.(CMCSA) to outbid AT&T Corp. (T) in a fight to purchase smaller rival MediaOne Group Inc. (UMG), analysts say. AOL fell 10 to 143. Comcast fell 3 to 63 1/4. AT&T rose 1 3/16 to 54 3/16.

If this holds true, only time and money will tell if MediaOne accepts. Everyone knows that AOL will then go through the roof if it and CMCSA takesover MediaOne - the broadband access (Roadrunner) that everyone's been looking for in AOL...

Did a little more research on the last 3 2:1 splits courtesy of tradepbs.com

date- price
2/22/99- $173
11/17/98-$150.75
3/16/98- $129.75

I don't know the exact date or price of AOL on the day these splits were announced but I remember that the splits were announced a few days after earnings were released which were:
1/27/99-$165.5
10/27/98-$122

It seems that we are currently well within the price range where the previous splits occurred. More significant is the fact that AOL has never been in this range and NOT split. So I continue to believe that history will repeat itself and patiently await a split announcement.
Some good news on the broadband front would also be welcome. :^)
