Process Boy, article...Intel Introduces Server Board to Help Fulfill the Internet Needs of Small and Medium Businesses... April 29, 1999 HILLSBORO, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE) -- C440GX+ Server Board Supports Two Pentium(R) III Xeon(TM) Processors for Improved Performance Intel Corporation today introduced the Intel(R) C440GX+ server board and the Cabrillo-C server chassis, two new server building blocks designed to be easily integrated with two Pentium(R) III Xeon(TM) processors so that resellers and integrators can build cost-effective, high-performance servers. The C440GX+ features dual peer PCI buses that provide three times the PCI bandwidth of most other dual processor boards, which results in faster performance for businesses that use the Internet. According to AMI-USA research, small businesses are relying more on the Internet and e-commerce to generate revenue: approximately 3.9 million small businesses will have Web sites by the year 2000 and 1.4 million will have secure transaction capabilities to conduct sales online. "The Intel C440GX+ server board and Cabrillo-C chassis meet the Internet and Intranet needs of my small and medium size business customers. The board and chassis are an affordable solution that's easy to integrate and performs well." says Steve Tang of GST Micro City, a Los Angeles-based reseller. C440GX+ Server Board Available now, the C440GX+ provides support for two Pentium III Xeon processors, Ultra2 SCSI storage, two gigabytes of SDRAM memory and dual peer PCI buses. The dual peer PCI buses provide six available PCI slots (two 66 MHz PCI slots and four 33 MHz PCI slots) so the server can grow as a business's computing needs change. By integrating SCSI, LAN and graphics capabilities onto the board, the PCI slots remain available for installation of other add-in cards, allowing a business to expand to meet future needs. One ISA slot is also available. Additionally, by combining the C440GX+'s on-board LAN controller with Intel's award-winning server adapters, resellers can create server solutions with scalable network bandwidth and redundancy to maximize uptime crucial in Internet-driven environments. The high availability and high performance offered by the C440GX+ makes this server board ideal for small and medium size businesses looking for a powerful, reliable Internet or workgroup server solution. The C440GX+ server board features Intel's advanced server management system, which incorporates a dedicated server management microprocessor and Intel Server Control (ISC) software to reduce unscheduled server downtime. Platform Event Paging (PEP) will page the administrator when certain server parameters are exceeded so that issues can be resolved before server downtime occurs. For example, if a server chassis fan slows down, the C440GX+ server board can page the administrator before the server overheats. The server board also has an Emergency Management Port (EMP) that allows the administrator to dial into the server to proactively monitor server operations and remotely reboot the system if necessary. Cabrillo-C Server Chassis In addition to the C440GX+ server board, Intel is announcing the Cabrillo-C server chassis to help resellers build a complete solution. The Cabrillo-C chassis offers hot-swap redundant power (three 400-watt power supplies), advanced cooling capabilities and server management features that monitor fan health, server temperature and security. It also features six hot-swap Ultra2 SCSI drive bays and three 5.25" peripheral bays. For added flexibility and for business growth, the Cabrillo-C server chassis can be configured as a pedestal or rack. The C440GX+ server board and Cabrillo-C server chassis include a three-year limited warranty. Intel also offers support features such as next-business-day replacement of defective server parts, a dedicated "server builder" web site and direct telephone access to support personnel. Real Server Campaign The C440GX+ server board and Cabrillo-C server chassis are the latest components in the Intel "real" server campaign to differentiate desktop PCs from "real" servers. "Real servers based on Intel server building blocks are specifically designed and tested to meet the demands of multi-user environments. By using Intel server building blocks, resellers and integrators can build "real " servers with greater server performance, manageability and dependability," said Abhi Talwalkar, general manager of Intel's Entry & Mid-Range Server Division. Intel offers a full line of boxed server products that range from single processor server boards to four-way server platforms designed for the reseller channel. Intel also offers a full range of support and services to assist resellers in better serving their customers. Server Builder, Intel's dedicated "One Stop Server Shop" Web site (www.intel.com/go/serverbuilder), provides technical and marketing support, including end-user marketing collateral, integration guides and recipes and configuration tools.
