Charles- Check out this site for an indication of the diversity in Set Top Boxes. It's more like the early Automobile or microprocessor days, everyone has their own design idea.

Bill is trying hard to buy the market but I'm thinking the big players that take Microsoft's money are going to be stranded. They're making the same mistake that IBM's followers in early OS/2 did: telling the user rather than asking the user what they want.
