Craig,

I am willing to wait and see what the new IBM ATA/66 drives will offer.

They are available at NECX:

necxdirect.necx.com

(I am not sure if the link will work)

The new ATA/66 drives are up to 223Mbs, but stil short of Maxtor. Maxtor is only ATA/33, 512K or 1024K of cache, IBMs are 2048.

I don't know how much difference the 33 vs 66 and the size of the cache make, since the OS has a much larger and much faster cache, so the cache is probably a non-factor. The speed of the interface over the speed of the drive comes into play with transfer from cache.

Let me know if I am missing something.

Joe

PS: I was just replacing a crashed drives in a NT server I use for testing. 10GB is about 8GB more than I will ever need in this server, so I had no need to spend extra $200 to get additional 10GB.
