Heinz,

I have been wondering about this employment cost for some time. So much of the compensation package, especially for the high tech high paying arena, are in the form of 401K, stock options, signing bonuses, generous moving expenses etc. Then if you work for a company whose stock has sky rocketed, why bother asking for a raise in the single digit range?

Assume you work for MSFT for the last 3 years, your wages might not have increased a penny but your options and MSFT stock in your 401K more than compensated for what did not show up on your paycheck.

Heinz:

I thought the tape or transcript of the conference call would be at the AMZN site. However, AMZN is only an internet site. They do list their officers who may respond to a request.

Today's opening will be interesting. Part of the market will react to economic data and part will react to AMZN data. It will be interesting to see who wins the tug-of-war. Earlier this month when the futures were extremely negative and called for about a 170 point decline in the INDU on opening, the INDU would only drop 60 points. There was about a 2 to 3-hour grace period to make a decision. It was screaming buy because it would not go down during this period. So today, we should go up unless the DOT is affecting the market. We may see an overall market trying to move in two different directions. It may be another opportunity--one way or another. Let's hope we have a grace period.
