Little more news... MARKHAM, ONTARIO-- - CRT GLASS INSPECTION ORDERS BRING BACKLOG TO RECORD LEVELS - Image Processing Systems Inc. (TSE:IPV)-under its trade name IPS Automation-today announced a new product, the AGI 9900 CRT Glass Inspection System. This system is designed for use by manufacturers of CRT glass used in computer monitor and television picture tubes. Using patented advanced laser optics technology, the system inspects CRT faceplates on production lines after forming and polishing. It can detect defects such as scratches, bubbles and stones as small as two thousandths of an inch, differentiate the type of defect and also determine its size. "This new CRT Glass Inspection System leverages the technology developed for our automotive glass inspection systems" commented Todd Richardson, IPS Vice President, Business Development. "And, the new system almost doubles the market size in our core business - machine vision for display manufacturers". IPS has already received orders from three major CRT glass manufacturers, totaling $1.8 million. "Despite the downturn in the Asian economy last year, we continued to invest in research and development", said Ken Wawrew, IPS President and CEO. "These orders bring the IPS vision systems backlog to a record level of $11.3 million for the first quarter of the year". "This new sector broadens our geographic market and provides our sales force with an exciting new display inspection product early in the fiscal year" said Dave Thomas, Vice President, Sales and Marketing. "We are introducing the new AGI 9900 CRT Glass Inspection System at the Society for Information Display (SID) show being held this month in San Jose, California".
