Agreed but there has to be a better way to identify the holder of the card. The credit card system isn't doing that. That's why there's so much credit card fraud on the Net.

It's very hard for merchants to open merchant accounts with credit card companies if they have an Internet only business. This is a huge bottleneck in Internet commerce.

I don't think most people will buy smart card readers for home use either but they will buy phones that have readers incorporated into them. Also the readers will become incorporated into computer peripherals.

But IVI doesn't look like it's making any headway as far as the Net is concerned. At least not so far.

You can get your own smart card reader for cheap on the web. They will also program the cards. I believe the device is under $50. I saw they were selling it for use with sattellite descrambling software so you could get all the TV channels.
