There's some things you can't predict, Burr: the announcement of production under contract, affiliation with other commercial entities, royalty agreements, or the like.

When ANY of these events occur, your 'past is prologue' approach to investing is out the window. Money flow indicates a shift in investor sentiment has already taken place.

The recent shelf registration is suggestive of different terms of financing than Valence has used this last year. We know they'll need money soon. Your 'predictable roller coaster' paradigm may need to be revised, and soon.

JM, just when you think you've got a stock pegged, that's usually when it surprises you.

Last year, we could count on the pre-conference hype-driven runups. This year, it has traded fairly regularly between $5.5 and $8.5.

My guess is that this trading range might not continue to be so predictable. If Monday's spasm was just another false alarm (and the lack of follow-through suggests this to be the case), and if the next round of financing is another floorless, I could envision it revisiting the 1998 lows, as Zeev suggested. Obviously news of a more positive nature could drive it higher than $8.5.
