Jury,

OTOT You left several reasons off the list, eg Clinton diverting attention from the China payoffs, etc. ... but the discussion becomes tiring. Some of my students are angry because America isn't doing more to "stop the genocide" and others are angry because bombs are hitting civilians. U.S.-bashing is the world's favorite pastime. That doesn't mean some of it isn't deserved, but when both sides are angry at the same time, one realizes that there isn't any acceptable path. (...except maybe bombing the leaders' homes, but leaders will never allow that.) It's called Catch-22 after an old U.S. book and movie about the fact that some situations have no way out.

So, you still haven't answered my basic question. Is there such a thing as morality? If there isn't, how can you say that the U.S. (or anyone else) should or shouldn't do something? That's by definition a moral statement.

I'm going back to grading theses and waiting for Greenspan and the market reaction. The normal runup prior to earnings announcement isn't working for CSCO this time. Is there a different feel to the market?

Regards,

Marc
