An alternative is that some reporter publishes a story saying that since people who participate in real wars have been playing these games, they're the likely root cause of those real wars. I can just see it now:

Milosevic Seeks $50B in Damages From Electronic Arts' Jane's Combat Simulations Division

THE HAGUE -- Yugoslavian President Slobodan Milosevic today filed a civil suit against entertainment software giant Electronic Arts for damages to his country incurred at the hands of NATO forces. Named in the suit is the software company's "Jane's Combat Simulations" division. Milosevic's attorneys blame EA for the recent destruction rained upon Yugoslav military forces by NATO airstrikes. "It is clear that had these violent war games not been available to the NATO military leaders, they would not have been able to launch such a precise attack on Mr. Milosevic's forces. We intend to show that the Jane's line of military combat simulations taught the NATO forces to aim and shoot their weapons which accounted for untold damage to the Yugoslavian homeland.
