SCI Systems Had Already Warned

Tom, here's a headline from last month:

Dow Jones Newswires -- March 24, 1999
SCI Systems Sees 3Q Net Below Analysts Views

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Dow Jones)--SCI Systems Inc. (SCI) expects
to report share earnings and revenue "upper-single-digit
percentages" below analysts' estimates for the third quarter
ending March 28.

In a press release Wednesday, the electronics maker said
revenue was hurt by market conditions for personal computer
products.

The devaluation of the Brazilian real cut earnings by 8 cents
a share, the company said. A First Call survey of 17 analysts
estimates that SCI Systems will earn 50 cents a diluted share
for the third quarter. <<

So if CNBC said SCI surprised, it was on already lowered
expectations. Not much to get excited about when that happens
IMO. Looks like technology selloff continues to drive ECM's
lower today.

Peter.
