The granting of stock options will never end. Under VSE rules companies are permitted to grant options up to 10% of the total number of shares. I have seen some US high tech companies, which are not limited to the 10% rule, go as high as 50%.

Thus companies will always max out the number of options. The only variable is when they do they announce/grant those options. Typically they try to time the market and grant options at what they hope will be the low point in the market.

Let's hope that they right.
