Look's like we finally are waking up.

BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 1999--Sequent Computer
Systems, Inc. today launched its first global advertising campaign
including print and online ads in national business and computer trade
publications. The roll-out includes a corporate Web page redesign and
a new tagline to re-inforce Sequent's data center leadership. The
multi-million dollar ad campaign was created by EURO RSCG/DSW
Partners, best known for its work with Intel's "Intel Inside" and
Iomega's "Because It's Your Stuff" campaigns.
The ads will run primarily in the US, UK and France. According to
Craig Aramaki, DSW Partners Account Director, the campaign takes the
theme and tagline: "Can Your Data Center Do This?(TM)" to high level IT
decision-makers and corporate executives as they face major e-commerce
infrastructure decisions.
"Today's Internet-driven business models demand a new data
center. It should scale easily with unpredictable Web application
traffic, leverage commodity components for standard environments and
reliably support a 24 x 7 business operation without failure. That's
the Sequent value proposition. It's time to turn the volume up and
build the Sequent brand," said Jeff Pancottine, VP global marketing
for Sequent. "We have implemented some of the biggest transaction
systems in the world using Intel processors, UNIX, Windows NT and
Internet technologies. The challenge is to expand our marketing
efforts and rise to the occasion."
The initial three ads are aimed at differentiating Sequent from
its competition with a focus on technology advances that are unique to
Sequent, backed by proven customer successes. Sequent's new Web site
will reflect the new branding created by DSW Partners.

Can Your Data Center Do This?

Central to the campaign is a new tagline that conveys Sequent's
lead in the data center. The tagline reads, "Can Your Data Center Do
This?" and is part of the three initial print ads as well as the new
Web site.

BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1999--Sequent Computer
Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SQNT.O), the leader in Intel-based data center
solutions, today announced that it will deliver enhancements to its
NUMACenter enterprise application delivery platform including a
Windows NT data base server option and features for improved Storage
Area Network (SAN) management.
NUMACenter is a framework for deploying large-scale Windows NT
applications that addresses data center requirements for performance,
availability and management.
"NUMACenter is the next step in the evolution of the Windows NT
data center," said Jeff Pancottine, vice president of global marketing
at Sequent. "Sequent is committed through NUMACenter and our
professional service offerings to enabling levels of service that
surpass the value of the predominant commodity Windows NT platform
marketplace. We believe a data center focus has become more critical
in anticipation of the expanded capability of Microsoft Windows 2000."

Data Center Windows NT

Sequent's NUMACenter with the Windows NT database server option
supports up to eight Pentium III Xeon processors in the database tier
with up to 24 application servers. It is optimized for Enterprise
Resource Planning, Customer Relationship Management and Data Mart
applications. The highly scalable mixed mode NUMACenter supports a
UNIX database server with up to 64 processors and 24 Windows NT
application servers.
To ensure performance and reliability the all Windows NT
NUMACenter platform, like the mixed-mode NUMACenter, provides
customers an environment that is pre-integrated and characterized
across enterprise-level peripheral and software stacks. SMP
Utilization Manager TM provides processor affinity enabling efficient
workload management and resource distribution.

Heterogeneous Server and SAN Management

All NUMACenter platforms ship with Sequent's Advanced Detection
Availability Manager (ADAM) a single point for management and control
of an integrated mixed vendor hardware environment. The enhanced ADAM
console now includes an intelligent host, delivering a more efficient
and friendly device management subsystem. The intelligent host enables
dynamic reconfiguration of devices on the ADAM LAN and ADAM
components, auto-discovery, and integration of phone home and lights
out capabilities. In addition, a web-based browser interface has been
added, enabling system administrators to view status of NUMACenter
devices including connected SAN elements like the 16 port fibre
channel switch.
Sequent's switch-based SAN implementation allows multiple Windows
NT servers to efficiently share high-end storage devices, increasing
availability and reducing costs associated with deploying large-scale
applications. The SAN is centrally monitored and managed through ADAM
and typically includes NUMACenter with UNIX and NT quads, Brocade's
SilkWorm Fibre Channel switches and a high-end EMC storage and
StorageTek tape back-up facilities.

Investment Protection and TCO

NUMACenter provides consolidated management of resources,
hardware investment protection and a lower cost of applications
delivery compared with a pure UNIX environment.
NUMACenter extends the price/performance advantage of Windows NT
to large-scale applications, supporting large numbers of users and
large amounts of data. NUMACenter offers rapid deployment and risk
reduction capability through proofing, characterization and best
practices. It integrates Windows and UNIX resources in the data center
where they can be most effectively managed. The NUMACenter framework
also can be up-graded to leverage the latest Intel processors, new
integration and management tools and is configurable for an all
Windows or UNIX environment.

Availability

The all Windows NT NUMACenter and enhanced ADAM begins shipping
in Q3, 1999.
