Yes, when I was at TI we would send free samples to get a guy started, even if it was a home project, believing that in the long run there would PR coming back in a positive way for example when the guy was employed at another OEM later and they needed a part. I believe MCHP presently sells stamp controllers to hobbyists thru places like digi key, of course that isn't a Java chip, but maybe in a few years???? FWIW, I am not into PTSC - got burned on the way down over 18 months ago! Bought LCCI today. Ha!
