Darrell - thanks for your response. No need for you to have the engineer go into more detail on my behalf - I assure you it would go way over my head. I'm really just trying to get a handle on where IDC fits in with the mobile telecommunications business. OTOH, they don't seem to have any significant ongoing business, but they obviously have some significant IPR that companies are willing to pay big money to license.

From your overview, and from what I've read at their home page, it seems that they are a basically a technology development company - with their R&D at least partially funded by their strategic partners - whose future revenue will primarily come from the sales of other companies' products that incorporate IDC's technology. Please correct me if my assumptions are wrong.

Ultimately, the question I have is this: will their fortunes be dependent on how well WCDMA fares against CDMA2000 in the evolution of mobile telephony? Or could the market develop in such a way that both CDMA2000 and WCDMA could be widespread but for different purposes, e.g. CDMA2000 for voice and WCDMA for data?

Thanks for your help.
