MetroPLUS Update

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 1999--NP Energy
Corporation is pleased to announce that its telecommunications arm, MCC MetroPLUS
Communications Corp. is aggressively developing its Internet Telephony IP Gateway that
will allow the Company to route calls over the internet at a substantial savings.

Customers using the MetroPLUS network will be able to pay one flat rate for unlimited long-distance calling between points on
the system. Initially, MetroPLUS will be starting in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

The Internet is a worldwide network of computer networks. Computers can send messages to each other via the Internet
(E-mail is the most familiar example). However, audio can also be digitized and passed between computers just like any other
data type. In fact, many Web sites are now sound-enabled.

The MetroPLUS IP Telephony Gateway uses the Internet to send audio between two telephones in real time, so the users can
converse. These gateways are the key to bringing IP telephony into the mainstream. By bridging the traditional circuit-switched
telephony world with the Internet, gateways offer the advantages of IP telephony to the most common, cheapest, most mobile
and easiest-to-use terminal in the world - the standard telephone.

MetroPLUS is projecting completion of the new network by September 1, 1999. Further progress on these exciting ventures
will be forthcoming.
