Gold has been down for so long that a 1 + % rise in one day seems fantastic (mirrored by some of the stocks) yet a 1 % move in the Dow would barely rate a mention. I can remember when gold really jumped or fell. d

Robert - in the late 70's early 80's I worked for a gold mining company and at that time the POG was really jumping. We had a rudimentary hedging program in place - and were operating for a while with stop-buys $50 above our strike price - often - too often - we would be whipsawed in one day because the action was so volatile.
