Alastair,
I hope that you and Pluvia(and gang members) are posting correct numbers because I am forwarding all of your posts to the CFO of Bid.com. If any of you are not posting the correct numbers, then you may be held libel for incorrect factual financial statements made about the company.

You are right in terms of the marketing/admin costs. Sorry... I had initially tried to do the analysis in US dollars (ie. $18mCdn/1.47 =12.2mUS) and still had the US$ figure scribbled on my pad. My mistake.

In terms of an increase, Godin has stated that they believe they are at the point where they will not have to use price promotion to as great an extent from here on in... I don't know exactly that % of their marketing dollars were price promo but I'm sure it wasn't insignificant. If they do discontinue this practice then they should be able to control their marketing costs.

In any event, I don't think $6k is going to invalidate the exercise and the only impact is that they may break even a couple months later. The real question we all have to ask ourselves with regards to this type of analysis is what do we think revenue is going to do - which was sort of the point of doing it to begin with - ie. if we apply the Forrest Research growth projections where do we end up in terms of share valuation.

You'll note that I made no bullish assumptions about bid.com growing its share, sourcing any revenue from advertising, any incremental impact of the dutch auction system, etc. Let me tell you, if I wanted to hype bid.com I would have had a totally different set of assumptions.
