5E switches aren't circuit switches? If that's the case than I am wrong. Sorry to bother the thread.

On a side note:
USWest or any other SP would be crazy to tell customers they can't support their service...that the customer has to wait until the newest technology is available. Today USWest has no choice. But all this discussion misses my point. That is, is modifying a circuit switch to provide tomorrows services better than replacing it. In the short term I think adapting the platform is preferrable since incumbents want to be sure the new technology is for real. Long term, supporting a circuit switch environment becomes too expensive (I think) and thus incumbents that don't migrate are unable to compete.

It's been a long time since I've seen any one hold up US West as a paragon of business acumen. The worst of all the Baby Bells.

Notwithstanding that, of course you are about the migration path.
