Good find Walter, I had not read that today but did recall reading about the "new single". Sony is connected to Maverick. Originally Madonna's start up, Maverick is now involved with Sony in some capacity (possibly bought out, a distributor, not sure) as you can find Maverick artists on Sony's web site (and I recall reading about Maverick & Sony's relationship some time ago). No doubt, this decision is the result of Sony & likely the Madison Project.
