Steve, I saw it too. Called them in fact. Although I don't have an account at Schwab, they spoke freely of their policy.

Basically, I think it's a way of a brokerage firm deciding on one more way to "f..." the public customer. But my opinion notwithstanding, there's a sensible reason, too. You want your clearing firm to be in business tomorrow. There is some truth to the remark that they are doing this for the protection of their customers...

After, of course, they've increased their profits by charging you additional margin interest.

What's the alternative?

Well, just don't try to get rich in a single day or on a single trade. For Pete's sake, Steve, you have the rest of your life.

And all those 49er's games....

Ouch! I hope OLDE doesn't make CMGI unmarginable! They already have it at 75% maintenance. I have cash in the account, but I wrote some put-spreads and naked puts and they have huge maintenance requirements.
