JMAR Receives Additional $3.5 Million Order for Integrated Circuit and Fabrication Process Technology

SAN DIEGO, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Red Chip Review Conference in San Francisco, John S. Martinez, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of JMAR Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: JMAR), a growing provider of precision micro-technology products, announced that its JMAR Semiconductor, Inc. (JSI) division has been awarded $3.5 million in additional contract funding to continue its program to upgrade and enhance a CMOS integrated circuit fabrication facility and related wafer processing technology for the low-volume and prototype manufacture of electronic circuits used in operational military systems. This contract extension, part of the Defense Department's Advanced Technology Support Program (ATSP), was issued by General Dynamics Information Systems, acting as a prime contractor for the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) in Sacramento, California.

Under this program, which commenced in September 1998, JMAR is making extensive enhancements to the existing DMEA facility, including the installation of additional semiconductor processing equipment capable of customizing semiconductor gate array wafers.

Marvin Sepe, President of JSI, said, "We are pleased to extend our working relationship with General Dynamics on this important program to enhance DMEA's already substantial capabilities. With the network of alliances that we have established with a number of semiconductor producers, coupled with the advanced microcircuit design approaches developed at JSI, we expect to contribute significantly to DMEA's ability to supply critical semiconductor components to a broad range of government users on a timely basis."

"The process technology established under this DMEA program with General Dynamics creates a unique series of opportunities for JMAR in both the government and commercial marketplaces," commented John S. Martinez, Ph.D., JMAR's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "By marrying this process technology with the innovative chip design techniques that we are implementing at DMEA, we believe we have set the stage for substantial future business opportunities for JMAR. This will include the ability to cost effectively supply small quantities of high-value customized chips for a variety of important commercial niche market applications."

JMAR Technologies, Inc. develops, manufactures and markets precision measurement, motion control and laser manufacturing systems, provides custom semiconductor products for the microelectronics industry and is a leading developer of advanced lithography sources for production of future higher performance semiconductors and other manufacturing and metrology applications.
