Maybe someone should start a thread where pure intellectual argument can take place unblighted by anyone who does not have postdoctoral credentials. I'm a high school dropout, but I still think that those who would say "this is so because I read it" ought to say where, so that others may assess the source. Skepticism is an essential part of pure intellectual argument.

Intellectual "squirmishing"? I like that: it has a nice ring, more panache than the standard "intellectual skirmishing". Quite seriously, Christine, you are being intellectually squirmish here. You write that in a post to nihil, who in his SI profile claims no more education than a failed BA from Princeton. One of the sharpest, most logical minds around here is Steven Rogers, another college dropout. And so forth. What we are talking about is a mindset that is different from yours, which you should be more tolerant of, considering your professed egalitarianism. It sounds to me as if you want to purge "your" thread. Okay, I volunteer to start a new one. How about calling it: Let's be logical !!!!! jbe
