You're right. The seventies where bad economic times. I was speculating in commodities at the time. Gold and silver went thru the roof. Long gas lines, high interest rates, soaring home prices, high inflation etc. and Jimmy Carter told us that there was a "malaise" in the land.

Paul Volker broke the back of inflation by raising interest rates to all time highs, which put us into recession.

The DOW hit a low of 780'ish in 1982. That was the bottom and the beginning of the boom of the century. That was also the time that I got out of commodities and into equities. :-))
