From Red Herring: Yo quiero cheap PCs

When it comes to being cheap, everybody's got an angle.
Well, almost everybody. Gateway, the primo direct home PC
retailer, has a few low-end boxes, but hasn't been successful at pushing them through the channel. Investors at the annual H&Q technology conference were clearly not impressed.

Contrast this to an upstart New York company, The Simple
Solution, LLC, which is preparing to roll out a campaign marketing its "Enchilada" line of computers. The "Enchilada Grande" package, $29.98 a month or $1,199 up front, includes a decent computer, a color printer, and four years of Internet access. The company will also spring for in-home setup, and it includes a built-in tutorial that gets users accustomed to the Web in stages (email, searching, downloading, and so forth).

Many companies are rolling out no-cost and low-cost PC lines (like e-Machines; see story link below), but Simple's focus on hand-holding is perfect for this market. Simple is also banking that the brand preferences that new users establish early in their exposure to the Web will be worth something to the company that helped establish them.
