I guess I missed the Press Release stating that Sun was now using Pentium III's in their workstations.

Are you sure about this? Could it be PII vs. PIII running Solaris, but not actually manufactured by Sun? I can visualize the SPARC guys now plotting a palace coup if Sun/McNealy is really shipping PIII based workstations. Wouldn't rule it out at sometime in the future though.
