hi timbabear, to add to the subject of dell warranties and tech support... i own 2 dell pc's. the altec lansing speakers developed a prob where the on/off button was sticking and not turning them off. dell immediately, upon hearing the prob, sent me 2 sets of new speakers and sub-woofers and upgraded them because the ones i bought were no longer available. they arrived on my doorstep via next day air with return shipping docs prepaid and enclosed. had i purchased those speakers from the manufacturer, there would have been a 1 year warranty. but because they were bundled with the dell system they came under the 3 year warranty. this occurred 2 years after my purchase.each and every time i have called dell (and for numerous reasons, i'll bet i've called them 20 times) i've never experienced a long wait, and the tech support people have fixed my problem. i have called them at all hours, night and day. i've also made good use of their email option for solving a problem, and also their online support and knowledge base options. one might gather from all the tech contact that i am having plenty of product failure with these machines. on the contrary, many calls were about software glitches (dell provides lifetime support for factory installed operating systems and software bundles), and a great many were about compatibility issues. my dell computers have run beautifully for 2 1/2 years. i spoke two days ago with the owner of a local bookstore. i noticed his dell computer and struck up a conversation with him about his experiences with the company. long story short, he went through 3 monitors before he got a good one, i.e, the 4th one worked. he said that under any other circumstances he would have been beside himself in anger, but that the dell people were wonderful and tended to every detail until all was right. his 4th monitor has been performing flawlessly now for 6 months and he's happy. end of dell commercial. :) mark
