FranceNet Selects Artecon Storage for Mission-Critical Web Hosting Services

LynxArray to Ensure High-Availability Data Access for Premier French Internet Service Provider

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1999-- Artecon (Nasdaq:ARTE - news), a leader in network storage solutions, today announced that FranceNet, the leader in Internet and extranet services and largest provider of mission-critical Web hosting in France, has chosen Artecon LynxArray(TM) RAID systems for its Web servers to ensure continuous access to client data.

FranceNet has installed a total of five fully redundant LynxArray systems, four in Paris and one in New York City, to store content for all Web sites hosted on FranceNet's Sun servers.

''The LynxArrays provide us with extreme operational flexibility thanks to their total independence and transparency vis-a-vis our servers,'' said Jean Francois Paccini, FranceNet's chief technology officer. ''With true fault tolerance and support for shared storage between multiple hosts, we can connect up to five servers to a single storage system. The LynxArray offers an excellent price/performance ratio.''

The LynxArrays provide FranceNet with a host-independent and operating system-transparent data storage solution that can be utilized by all of FranceNet's various hardware platforms -- numerous models of Sun, HP, IBM -- running Unix or Windows NT. LynxArray's modular architecture scales up to three terabytes in a single system via support for multiple SCSI Ultra Differential, Ultra2 SCSI LVD or Fibre Channel buses and 9-, 18- or 36-gigabyte disks. Dynamic expansion capabilities and a complete event-reporting system maximize performance, resiliency and flexibility. Redundant features include hot-swap active-active RAID controllers, fans and power supplies.
