At least some analysts seem to do their homework.

=Prudential's Wachtel: Dow To Swallow 11K Then Digest In May

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Driven by a strong April earnings period the Dow
Industrial Average will top 11,000 before taking a breather in a quiet May,
according to Larry Wachtel, market analyst at Prudential Securities.
"11,000 is going to be a bit of a barrier," Wachtel told CNBC in an interview
Friday.
The stock market has been driven by better-than-expected earnings, but "as we
move into May and we lack that catalyst" the market will take a breather, he
said.
"With nothing on the interest rate front that's going to drive us forward,"
Wachtel said May will be a time to digest April's 1,000-point gain and wait for
the June earnings period.
Wachtel said he likes cable supply companies, including General Instrument
Corp. (GIC) and Scientific-Atlanta Inc. (SFA), pharmaceuticals, including
American Home Products Corp. (AHP) and Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMY), and Dell
Computer Corp. (DELL).
