Travis is indeed lots of fun, although after a while he gets very repetitive. But a first-rater on the same level as Rex Stout and Dorothy Sayers? Perhaps. But he doesn't pass my test for a real first rater -- somebody whose books I look forward eagerly to reading the third, fourth, fifth, etc. time. Once I've read a McGee I'm content, but not champing at the bit for a second read.
