Ouch. That not a nice thing to say about the Holy Grail.

How did the others do?

Remember: it's the firmware that often differentiates quality in the "DVExplore" product line. We saw excellent pictures from DidieCom's new MV400 HDTV encoder box (with additional lookahead, of course). Yet C-Cube products don't inherit DidieCom code. It's one way to avoid conflict of interest with other users of Cube chips. This may be one good reason (or at least excuse) to spin off DidieCom from Cube.

Of course a company such as DidieCom which ignores the potential of its "illigetimate" spin offs such as v-bits.com and skystream.com might be a bad sign.

Even though, I am not familiar with this actual product, I am familiar with the company's reputation for quality and it is hard to believe that they would have developed anything as inferior as this article indicates. There had to be some variable that caused these results and I can't believe that the problems won't be corrected.

Also what did he say about the other units tested?

So Bill, how did the other lowcost encoders perform?
