Graphics Benchmarks, here's some numbers:

Ultra 10: CDRS-03 DX-03
Elite3D m3 76.3 23.2

SGI 320 wks (running NT4.0)
PIII 500 187.1 25.6

The high end graphic cards and capabilities are already there in NT/PC land. SGI is demonstrating this now. Above numbers taken from Sun and SGI web pages respectively.

[I think for high end usage Sun and SGI are needed, but on
low end PC graphics work fine and Nvidia is indeed pushing the
price performance limits. Who knows...maybe Sun should use them
as a supplier if that works out to feed its low end machine.
]

If Sun's customers wanted low-end graphics, would they not tell SUNW?

Overall, it seems as though people on the thread criticize SUN because they do not use a cheap graphics card, triangles, whatever.

It is hard for me to believe that Sun is not aware of the competition.

Many months ago, I asked someone on this thread why Sun did not improve their graphics. Someone answered that there was room for Sun to improve their graphics but Sun might not want to push the company further into that market.

Do you have an opinion?

Cheers,

Mephisto
