philipah - re: new pricing, "good" - Me: HUH???

They have got to be kidding. MIPS based pricing? This is an ancient pricing model! From past experience, I cannot even describe to you how much pain this causes customers; embedding the word "internet" in the pricing rational does not make this any better.

I really have to wonder if there was any input from the salesforce (or more importantly, from customers) on this pricing model.

The only issue this tries to address is scaling for number of accesses to the database; MIPS is not a good proxy.

What if I buy a bigger machine to consolidate a few applications currently spread out on three different boxes and only one of them is my internet presence. With the new pricing I'd have to pay Oracle more just for consolidating my applications. Centralization may not be a major IT trend these days, but this is just one example of the wrench that will be thrown in by customers during negotiations. SORRY, this just won't fly.

My prediction, look for a different pricing model to arise shortly.
