What caused the Protestant Reformation? Was it all just counterweight to the Catholic Church? To the Holy Roman Empire? Did none of it happen "by itself"?

I definitely didn't post that twice. So instead of being redundant, I'll say that I am going to run out to a festival soon, and I hope that you will have fun under the beeches on the beach (with the b- no, the ladies) in honor of Beltane.
