This is the kind of talk that will drive Sun in the ground. This shows you what a hardware company Sun is and how they are failing to pursue future growth by not expanding into software. Their growth is dependant on getting into software. Selling Sun iron is no longer good enough to achieve company growth.

Sun management is in K-space. They are failing to see and act upon opportunities in software as well as reducing the workstation - PC gap which is starting to have an effect.

Software will be free ... tell that to MSFT ;) and we can all have a chuckle.

Ralf ..... thanks very much for your post on the IBD Anniversary Issue

How did you happen to notice this particular issue? I subscribe to IBD (on-line only) and I never saw anything about it - including the Monday, May 3 issue which is posted already.

This post is one of the great examples of why Silicon Investor is so valuable to me. Despite reading or scanning all the hard copy issues of the Wall Street Journal, Barrons, the Boston Globe and Fortune and the on-line copies of the New York Times, Investors Business Daily, the Washington Post and the San Jose Mercury News, I would miss a lot of news I really would want to see if it were not for all the other attentive subscribers here.

To me, most of the personal postings and opinions - such as the last week or so on this thread - are mostly (not entirely) drivel - only my personal opinion.

But Silicon Investor is quickly becoming - if it is not already - a major source of investment news stories for technology investors like me.

Keep up the good work - all of you. I will continue to post the new stories I run across - not to mention my occasional inane comments.
