You're right. That wasn't a quote from Bezo (sorry, Jeff). It was the WSJ that said "Mr. Bezos and Ms. Covey portrayed future losses as part of Amazon's long-term strategy."

In any event, this lowers long-term expectations, not short-term, and it still remains to be seen if the capital expenditures in 'Bricks and Mortar' distribution centers and the related problems with inventory is the right stratagy.

He didn't say that. He said (actually Joy said) that building the most sophisticated and
expensive distribution network now at great loss is the only reasonable choice to insure
long-term shareholder value.


It is Friday and I must nitpik. It was not stated that this was the most expensive distribution network. She stated it was a very expensive distribution network. She also stated it was sophisticated but did not state it was the most sophisticated <VBG> She stated in the Q and A that some items will still need personal handling. I could not tell what type.
