Here are my guesses for Compaq's future over the course of the next six months to a year. I'm sure many of them will prove to be naive in hindsight, but I haven't seen anyone make any plausible guesses as I'm attempting to do so here. Please let me know what you think.

* New CEO is found, has excellent credentials and gets generous compensation package
* $500 million restructuring to trim remaining DEC/Tandem fat and to boost future profitability by lumping in future expenses into charge
* Q2 results aren't as bad as feared
* Many more top execs leave and are replaced by (hopefully) better ones
* Non-core products, such as Alpha workstations are dropped
* PC models are consolidated into fewer models with more creative names and designs
* Increased internet focus (OK, Rosen eluded to this a bit)
* Spin-off of AltaVista, Compaq shareholders get a few
* Compaq's rebirth won't be nearly as painful as IBM's, Digital's, Apple's, Wang's, etc., but still difficult and bumpy nonetheless

Mthoner, you don't need a phd to see that the upside is greater than the downside. The downside could only max out at 22.3125, whereas the upside is infinity. The problem here with investing in CPQ is how long you want to wait to make money. If time is a zero factor for you buy the stock, put it away, and check it out 1-2 years from now, and guess what it'll be higher......no kidding! My question to all investors here.... Is CPQ the best place to invest money in NOW? Why tie up money now when stock will not move now?
