<<But the real SAN market is at the higher end, so expect Dell to sell Solaris- and UnixWare-ready SANs in early 2000.>>

I believe Dell is still in the selection process for these high end products. These products will emphasize 'public loop' devices and performance. It is yet to be seen who will win Dell's business in this arena.

Neil,

It seems to me that the author of this article is ignoring the basic principle of Dell's business model - no inventory. That will not be the case if they are assembling SANs and other enterprise gear from other manufacturers' components. If my take on their agreement with BRCD is correct - it seems like they are leveraging their marketing and name recognition to get their OEM suppliers to keep prices low. Maybe that is an oversimplification, but if SANs are that easy to sell it also bodes well for other distributors with large customer bases - like CONSAN.
