Just a point of information. I've been checking the "Company Profile" section of a 1/2doz. sites and they all define Ampex as:

Ampex Corporation is engaged in the design and manufacture of high performance scanning recording devices and digital image processors used for the acquisition of data at high speeds under difficult conditions and for the storage of mass computer data. For the FY ended 12/31/98, net sales fell 21% to $63.3M. Net income fell 29% to $10.4M. Results reflect lower sales of instrumentation products to government customers and lower margins.

One would think that at least Ampex's description should be changed for the record. Maybe like the "Subject" says: Video Internet + Video and Storage Solutions.... Just a thought.

In the very short run I usually am, DF. Probably am wrong again. Good posts all.

My long position continues to find solace in my opinion that if AXC went selling as carefully as they went buying, the breakup value of the company - due to the savvy net investments - now handily exceeds 500 million. Not that they have any intention of selling, but that remains a comforting backdrop ( again, in my opinion) to patience.
