I find this statement very interesting, Steven. Would you mind expounding on it?

I already did, really. All that American-relations-with-the-3rd-world stuff. Not really a topic of general concern. The point was that if people assign their charity spending according to their own priorities, those priorities will be based on their own awareness. Gaps in that awareness stemming from historical ignorance can lead to real responsibilities being overlooked.

How many Americans are aware of the extent to which third world debt problems stem from policy decisions made in Washington DC? How many think that third world debt relief should be a matter of American concern? Few in both cases.

Government does a pretty poor job of foreign aid as well, but that is less inherent, I suspect than an issue of misplaced priority.
