hey donald,

all i can tell you is that i checked the size of my system.dat file, and it's 2.31mb. that's a long way from 6mb's, isn't it?

from my very limited knowledge of the registry, i can not tell you if that is a normal size or not. as you probably know, system.dat is one of just two files that make up your registry. user.dat being the other. you may possibly have a lot of left-over, inconsistent data hiding out in the registry that has bulked it up to that size. just shooting in the dark here, really. but a registry cleaner might help reduce it. there's a regclean.exe file on some win95 systems. you could search your hard drive for it. it's available for download at other sites if you want it.

you can look for more registry info at this download site:

pcmech.pair.com

look for the win95 registry faq. (the above site was just posted here the other day and looks to be a winner.)

wish i had something better for you, donald.

:)

My SYSTEM.DAT file is 1.2 meg after a fresh installation of Win98. It grew to 2.4 meg after installing Office97.

Cheers, PW.
