From what I remember, in most of the cases if the deal doesn't get through, the stock price returns back to preannouncement level. INTU is a good example. It was $30 before they tried to sell to MS, $90 soon after the announcement and returned back to $30 after.
Good for trading, not for holding. CF is my longest ever holding and all this volatility does get me frustrated lately.
As for buyout, I don't think that rumors have any merits. Makes no sense for CKFR to sell, no sense for Yahoo to buy. No matter how I slice it. Unless they got a kickback from TP under the table to trash the whole EBPP business.<G>
