Not worth the risk? They just lost $128 Million. The highest loss in their corporate history and they face a repeat for Q2. They have 17 Class action lawsuits pending against them for lying in their Q1 CC. They hocked their PLD group to stave off bankruptcy for a few more months. Interest payments are coming up on their Dresden Fab. The K62 has lost market share back to Intel and ASPs are sinking fast. Their shareholders are screaming for blood. They have always "risked the farm" in the past, why wouldn't they now? Clearly it is worth any risk and if they aren't doing it it's just because they can't, even with jacked up Vcc. It's pretty simple.

Mani,

Re: "I say that AMD's process does not guarantee a smooth ramp of K6-III at
0.25. Considering the current yields of the k62, it is simply not worth
the risk. Pretty simple."

But Mani ... As AMD waits on their K6-III ramp, the ASP of their K62
keeps falling. I say that with the larger die size of the K6-III, lower
speeds than a K62, and no performance advantage ... Why would AMD produce
the K6-III at all. AMD is just waiting to HYPE the K7, which is even larger
in die size with various "reports" on performance ... Now, that is what I
call "taking some risk".

Make It So,
