I do not view American democracy as an objectively apparent moral good. It is but a system of human organisation. But the systematic oppression and destruction of humans on the basis of age and religious belief does indeed present moral difficulties. Even so, it is not China that compels me to do what I can for myself, it is America (or rather the thing America has become).

I think that the inability or unwillingness to see the current maladministration for what it really is is tied in with the at least gut-level recognition by many that our world is due for a kick in the teeth.

The thing is that most people don't really recognize their sense of desperation for what it is, they just take it and run with it. And since they don't realize what it is that's driving them on, and they don't understand what it is that they need to do to survive the coming times, they bend their desperation to the accumulation of material wealth and all of its modern trappings: an SUV, a brand new house in a gated community, big-screen home theater TV, etc. And since they really don't have the faintest idea how our economy actually works, they somehow conclude that Clinton is responsible for the recent seems like good times. So they continue to support him simply because they don't know what else to do.

If you're out on the day the bubble bursts, don't go near any tall buildings, 'cuz they're gonna be dropping like leaves.

P.S. I believe the Chinese will be the next great power (if there is a next great power). All they had to do was hang around for 6,000 years. Soon enough it'll be their turn.
